Since 1984 when the OSHA “Hazard Communication” standard first became law, CIH employees have been actively involved in compiling chemical inventories and MSDS (now SDS) and training employees. Michele was responsible for the implementation of Hazard Communication at the NASA/Johnson Space Center in 1985, and continues to provide this training today. Recently OSHA has adopted the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals which includes significant changes to labeling, SDS, and signage associated with substance specific standards. And, although it is still known informally as the “Right to Know” standard – employees now have the right to understand.
